If you ever wanted to try your hands (and feet) at a climbing competition but didn't know where to start, there is a citizen's division during SCS Adult Nationals at Momentum, Sunday, January 25. So, even if you climb 5.9's on toprope, you can compete. It's a friendly atmosphere with lots of awards and prizes and only $25 for Momentum members.
For more information, contact Michelle Legg@801.259.6456 or Momentum@801.990.6890.
We are also having a bake sale during the competitions to help support the Momentum Youth Climbing Teams. We will need lots of help selling goodies as well as people to provide things for us to sell. Please contact Michelle for more information.

~Randy Leavitt bolted the route 16 years ago.
(Hmmm, where have we heard that name before?)
~The route is being called Jumbo Love, which follows the naming convention of other routes at Clark Mt.’s 3rd Tier/Monastery area. The other routes are Randy Leavitt’s Jumbo Pumping Hate (5.13d/14a) and Ethan Pringle’s Jumbo Glass (5.14c).

Now on to this week's challenge!
"Intensive Care" is a climbing route somewhere in Utah.
- Where is it? (which canyon is it in)
- How many pitches long is it?
- Which pitch is the crux?
- How did the route get it's name?
- Which of the route's first ascensionists has done work for both the Quarry and Momentum?

Amanda is 12 years old and is in 6th grade at Rosecreek Elementary School. She loves to eat Chinese food and drink Oreo milkshakes and Gatorade. Her favorite colors are black and purple. Amanda has one brother named Jeremy, a dog named Hazmat and a cat named Bubba.
Amanda first tried climbing 2 years ago at a state fair on a portable climbing wall. Since then, she has climbed several times at Dick's Sporting Goods at the Gateway plaza in downtown Salt Lake City. Chris B., one of Momentum's part time route setters, runs the climbing wall at Dick's Sporting Goods. When he saw Amanda climb, he encouraged her to try out Momentum's climbing team which she ultimately joined about 2 months ago.
Amanda enjoys bouldering as well as sport climbing and is looking forward to competing when sport climbing season begins. She is also excited about going on the outdoor climbing trips with the team.
Besides rock climbing, Amanda likes volleyball, basketball, playing guitar and listening to music. Her favorite bands are Alesana and Cradle of Filth. The place she would most like to go on vacation is Nashville, Tennessee.
The person Amanda most looks up to is her father because he is taller than her. Apparently she has a sense of humor that we don't get to see much of as well! :)
Someday, Amanda would like to be a scientist. Since she has no idea at this point in time what she would do with $1,000,000, perhaps she could save it and someday use it for research and discover something really cool!
Congratulations Amanda! We are glad you decided to be a part of Team Momentum!

Coach Ty's
ATTITUDE is more important than FACT!
If you begin a boulder problem or a route thinking that the crux is going to shut you down, guess what.....it will!
If you think you can't do it, you have already shut yourself down.
Before you start any problem, look over the moves or do what climbers call "the climber's dance" and envision yourself succeeding!

Winner of this week's challenge...
The clever and talented Katie S !
Apparently this week's question spurred a variety of answers but this is what I came up with. I'm sure I'll find out if this is correct relatively soon :)
